September Club Meeting
Tech Session at Victoria BMW: The Technology behind the e60, 545i
September 21st, 2004

To kick off our fall session for 2004, Victoria BMW hosted a presentation by Shop Foreman Ken Inkman on the high-tech aspects of the e60, 545i. We had an opportunity to hear and see the many features of the car. This proved to be a fabulous meeting and it was an opportunity to get to know the folks at our local dealership, not to mention, getting up close and personal with some fabulous cars.

19th Annual Cowichan Valley Car Picnic
August 8, 2004

Recap, courtesy Roger Harmston

As one friend commented, "When you're tired of Hot Rod Shows and the British Car Meets, this is THE place to go!" A record number of cars were in attendance this year. So many new cars showed up that they ran out of entrant dash plaques before 11 AM.

There were many one-of-a-kind vehicles, and most Marques were fairly well represented. Four Club members assembled at Town and Country for a leisurely drive to Mill Bay and several other members from Up-Island dropped in to visit.

This is a great event that some of us have been going to for more than 10 years. For me, it's an opportunity to see people that I only see once a year, and some of those friendships go back more than 20 years.

It's highly educational, if you stop and talk to some of the owners. I discovered how the prices of Lotus Cortina GTs have gone through the roof (over $40K). There were many unique and highly collectible vehicles - some with extremely low production counts (1 of 7). This is the place where BMW's are flanked by Thunderbirds, Packards, Maseratis and Rolls Royces.

Try not to miss the Cowichan Valley Car Picnic next year; you'll be amazed who you might see that you haven't run into for decades. It's a marvelous opportunity to have a picnic in a great setting on the grounds of Brentwood College, see lots of cars (more than 300), and have a wonderful time.

Next stop will be the European Car Picnic at a new location this year, Queen Alexandra. Another chance to see old friends and different cars.
